I think this would be a nice, new weekly feature to add to the site...
So, without further ado, I would like to announce the first edition of: THE NEPA RUMORMILL or more accurately "What rumors did NEPA Observer hear this week?" Of course, none of this should be taken as gospel and should be triple checked by readers. That's why they are called rumors!
Kanjorski's Congressional Seat: This is a topic that has been debated around political watercoolers everywhere recently. Everyone I talk to at work has a different take on it, so take this all lightly and with a teaspoon of sugar. Who? Scranton Mayor Chris Doherty perhaps? I have also heard Pat Casey's name. More recently I have heard two other names: State Rep. Todd Eachus and State Rep. John Yudichak.
Eachus is an interesting addition to the RUMORMILL because he comes from the same region of Luzerne County as potential Republican congresional candidate Barletta. Eachus has been working to solidify his record on illegal immigrants according to part of the Lynetts media empire. Eachus is in the state Democratic Party leadership in a position called Majority Policy Chairman. Not sure what that means, but I suspect it could help him.
From the people I talk to in Luzerne county (where my wife works), Yudichak is pretty close to Kanjorski, so he might be a challenger as much as someone who might take the reins and get support from Kanjo. Then again, my wife's friends have been wrong before.
[Note the comments on this post indicating Yudichak and Kanjo apparently hate each other. Obviously I don't know much about Luzerne County politics and neither do my wives co-workers, ha! In the future, anonymous commenters should read a post, see above re: "triple checked by readers" before attacking me in the comments! These are "rumors" I hear. I make no claims to validity.]
As for the more common rumored candidates, I think Doherty would struggle as he is not even that popular up here in Scranton and would be facing a primary where most of the votes come from Luzerne County.
Pat Casey is a very interesting possibility, however, from what I hear, his brother Chris might running for Attorney General next year, so there might be too many Caseys on the ballot with him running too.
Of course, any challenger will have to face Kanjo's already huge warchest and his long history and ties to the District.
Please email me at nepa.observer AT gmail DOT com if you would like a topic or piece of info discussed on upcoming RUMORMILLS.
Regards from Scranton.

Yudichak and Kanjo are not close. Yuddy once said "I strongly endorse Congressmen Kanjorski's retirement."

Welcome to the neighborhood.
Interesting. There could be a huge primary then if Kanjo looks weak.
Unless there is some sort of scandal nobody is going to take on Kanjo in the primary. They're all waiting for him to retire.
What about all those family contracts the Scranton Times talked about earlier this year? I don't know enough about the whole thing, obviously, but wasn't that fairly serious?
wow are you off base and obviously haven't read a local newspaper in the last decade. Yuddy and Kanjo had a huge falling out and are the equivalent of mortal enemies. they have had very public arguments in front of the press. nice blog but you really need to check facts before you put something out there or no one will take your posting seriously. and this is a big one to get wrong.
Anonymous, please see my "note" just added to the main article.
It is one thing to qualify something as a rumor. It is another to put something out there that is known to be factually inaccurate. The falling out isn't rumor it is well documented, try a google search before you print something.
Saying it is a rumor does not absolve sloppy inaccuracies.
And you weren't being attacked, you were being corrected.
